About Us

The Santa Barbara Channels came into existence on January 1, 2003. We are a non-profit corporation with a community based Board of Directors. We operate both Public Access (channel 17) and Educational Access (channel 21) channels as part of the Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) channels authorized by the Federal Communications Act in the cable franchise areas served by Cox Communication.

Community Television 17 - Public Access

“Access for the South Coast”
Channel 17 Community Television provides a televised forum for legal, non-commercial speech; a First Amendment beacon, a channel in which citizens and organizations can create and disseminate information. The Chamber of Commerce, Navy League, Coastal Housing Coalition, and the Red Cross have produced programs for Channel 17. Community Access television is a great resource for non-profits to get greater visibility in our community while spreading awareness.

Channel 21 – Education, Culture & Arts

“More of what you’re looking for”
Channel 21 provides programming important to our community. Consider Channel 21 your televised gallery of local arts and your VIP seat at the Marjorie Luke Theatre. Our Creative Community series has won multiple national awards. The programming aired on Santa BarbaraTV 21 comes from local educational institutions including SBCC and UCSB. Their shows range from documentaries, lectures, revolutionary research symposiums, interviews, to coverage of school events and artistic performances.
