Anybody who’s ever had any kind of relationship knows how “The Space Between Us” can feel. See this emotion brought to canvas in a new exhibit by Ebelyn Hernandez at Gallery 7000 July 2-30. Close the gap between you and your loved one and bring them to the opening reception on Friday, July 2, 5-7 pm.

Ebelyn Hernandez’s work serves as an examination of loss and separation experienced through time, echoing an absence made ever-present through failed relationships and the gradual dissemination of memories that were once cherished. Using space within the picture frame she attempts to evoke a sense of solitude suggesting a longing for connection as well as the uneasy emotions experienced in the situation. Working from photographs deemed important in her family history yet held no recollections to her, she tries to pass on the detachment through the subject’s line of vision, directed at something beyond the audience’s comprehension.
